Pre-Purchase Examination
The pre-purchase examination is a comprehensive physical examination of the horse which is performed prior to purchasing a horse. We do not pass or fail a horse, but rather provide detailed information to assist the prospective buyer in determining whether the horse will be serviceable for the intended use. This is a hands on examination and includes an ophthalmic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal examination. Laboratory testing may include a coggins test, CBC and blood chemistry, and drug screening. The horse is examined in motion, preferably under saddle, and flexion tests are performed. Radiographs are valuable to provide information on which to base the purchase decision and to serve as a baseline for the individual horse. Other tests or procedures may be done if needed, warranted, or requested.
